Steep & Brew was founded in 1979 by Mark Ballering in a living room, a place where people could gather to share good music and company. Mark then found a beautiful 1890’s Italian coffee roaster and began roasting coffee. Soon thereafter, he began traveling to coffee farms in Central America, developing friendships with coffee growers and their families, and learning the fine art of roasting coffee from the ground up.
A strict adherence to exceptional bean selection, high quality standards, and freshness has helped us to be considered among the industry's top specialty coffee roasters, and our coffees frequently receive national recognition. Honored coffees include our Breakfast Blend, Kona Blend and Costa Rican. We also sell Café Fair coffees which are certified fair trade, shade grown and organic.
To ensure that you only experience the freshest possible coffee, Steep & Brew delivers your coffee with our own trucks and drivers, direct to your grocery store, within days of roasting. It doesn’t go through distribution warehouses like other coffees, which can take many months to even reach a store shelf!
We are earth-friendly and neighbor-friendly: When you buy a latte at Steep & Brew coffee shops, you not only get the very best tasting milk you can buy, you also support area farms. We’ve teamed up with the local Sassy Cow Family Creamery for all of our milk and dairy products. Also, in 2008, we converted all of the plasticware used to serve cold drinks in our cafes to eco-products made entirely from 100% biodegradable corn. For Café Fair we use a new earth-friendly tin tie bag that is made from post-consumer recycled materials and is clay-coated instead of bleached. The interior lining is made of grease-proof paper instead of polypropylene, so the entire bag can be recycled after use by simply removing the tin-tie closure.
